Women as Agents for Peace- CSPPS Statement on the Occasion of IWD2025
On this International Women's Day, the Civil Society Platform for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding (CSPPS) wishes to highlight the critical role of women in contexts impacted by manifestations of fragility, conflict and violence. CSPPS reaffirms its commitment to strengthening women’s voices and their participation in peacebuilding and statebuilding processes.
In a world where multiple crises continue to affect millions of lives, women find themselves on the front lines, suffering the consequences of violence and injustice, but are also champions of peacebuilding. However, it must be recognised that their inclusion in political dialogues and peacebuilding initiatives is not only a matter of social justice, but also vital for sustainability. To amplify women’s roles within peacebuilding, it is crucial to address systemic barriers such as limited access to resources, education and safety.
Women bring unique perspectives and innovative solutions to the challenges of fragile and conflict-affected contexts. Their engagement in civil society coalitions, supported by CSPPS, is fundamental to influencing prevention and peacebuilding policies.
On this occasion, we call on governments, international organisations and all those committed to reducing and preventing violent conflict and fragility to support and champion the much-needed role of women in peacebuilding.
We must build a future where women, as agents of change, play a central role in transforming conflict-affected and fragile settings into peaceful and resilient societies. CSPPS is committed to continuing its efforts to ensure that women’s voices are heard and respected, as their contribution is essential to preventing crises and building sustainable peace for all.
Amidst global turmoil, let us celebrate women globally, especially women peacebuilders on March 8. See a video message from CSPPS here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DG9YgWhKdfs/?igsh=MXQ4NjNyejl4ejh3ZQ==
