We need to talk about Peace - Paris Dialogues on peacebuilding and prevention

We live in a difficult time for peace. The world is witnessing a record number of conflicts - many of them of protracted nature. At the same time, our multilateral systems seem to be unable to adequately address the complex, multilayered conflicts - which are exacerbated by many other factors, like climate change, the rise of authoritarianism and violent extremism.

At the same time, we are witnessing a worldwide shrinking of civic space and a rapid decline in funding for peacebuilding and conflict prevention efforts; a world in which trusted systems seem to be suddenly prone to dramatic shifts and fundamental changes; and as conflicts persist and insecurity rises globally, addressing these issues has become an urgent priority.

Key stakeholders from the international community, including government representatives, civil societies, and donors, will meet in Paris during the first week of March to discuss these critical challenges.

Ahead of the next Steering Committee Meeting of the International Dialogue for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding (IDPS) on March 4th, 2025, and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Forum on Development, Peace, and Stability on March 5th and 6th, 2025, the Executive Committee of the Civil Society Platform for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding (CSPPS) will hold an in-person Strategic Meeting on Monday, March 3rd. Convening the Executive Committee members before these pivotal events is crucial for aligning the Platform's contributions and preparing for these important dialogues to take place.

On Monday, March 3rd, current, former, and newly elected Executive Committee members of CSPPS will meet to solidify the Platform's strategic position ahead of the IDPS meeting. Participants will also identify and concretise strategic priorities for the coming years, with IDPS and other relevant partners, next to sharing insights on the state of peace, justice, and inclusion in member countries.
