In this paper, CSPPS Core Group member and Peace and Security Expert Lulsegged Abebe looks at where the fight against corruption on the African continent stands today. In light of last year's African Union 30th Annual Summit on “Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation”, Mr Abebe examines how the fight against corruption relates to the upholding of SDG 16+ targets, underscores the limitations of the AU to properly implement existing legal instruments and policy frameworks in African countries, and claims that no change will come unless financial institutions based in the Global North start changing their pernicious practices.
