Getting Back on the Peacebuilding Track in Papua New Guinea
From 12 September to 30 November, the PEACE Foundation Melanesia implemented a local project aiming to build its own organizational capacity to be able to engage with other stakeholders and create a national coalition of CSOs and other stakeholders to address preventive conflict mitigation through peacebuilding, restorative justice and win-win mediation.
The organization, which was dormant since the end of 2015, reactivated and held its first Board meeting to engage with the organization’s members. An assistant coordinator and a consultant for financial reporting were engaged to accompany members in reactivating the organization and writing a solid financial report.
Meanwhile, the organization updated and maintained network partners and attended meetings and seminars, especially in the capital, and set up a register of possible partners. They have also engaged a field officer to observe and report on the Bougainville referendum vote.
The organization is thus slowly getting back into action, now foreseeing a strategic workshop for 2020.
