Accelerating efforts on the WPS Agenda

In October 2019, 438 civil society organizations from 94 countries, including CSPPS, addressed an open letter to the Security Council's Open Debate on Women, Peace and Security. Through this collective action, the signatories call on UN and Security Council members to step up efforts on the WPS agenda and actively support the operationalization and implementation of 5 key issues: conflict prevention and resolution (1), promoting gender equality and women's rights in the international peace and security sectors (2), encouraging women's participation in the peace and security process (3), protecting human rights advocacy (4), acknowledging the essentiality and interconnectivity of all aspects of the WPS agenda in the process of their implementation (5).

This letter is a reaction to the endangerment of a number of WPS aspects in the Security Council. The fundamental principles of this agenda are now threatened by political interests and a climate of delegitimization. CSPPS, with all these other signatories, calls for respect for the principles voted for and serious action in favor of women's rights and gender equality in the context of international peace and security.

You can read the full letter in English. It is also available in French, Arabic, Spanish and Russian.
