Briefing Papers

The interconnections between food security and conflict are an important element of the HDP nexus and a key consideration for peacebuilding actors in their work. Without peace, there cannot be food security, and without food security, peace and stability cannot be achieved. This paper explores the manifestations of the food security and conflict nexus and its interlinkages with other critical issues, as well as key global actors, collectives and frameworks which address it. It will then move on to its core focus: the ways in which CSPPS and its members respond to these interconnected issues in their work, to produce key lessons and recommendations for present and future action on this nexus. 

As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda in 2025, this briefing paper gives an overview of the agenda and ways in which the Civil Society Platform for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding (CSPPS) interacts and engages with the agenda, either through its individual members or collectively as a platform. It explores the rationale and what led to the adoption of the agenda, as well as the technicalities and specificities of resolution 2250 of the UN Security Council (UNSC). 

This briefing paper explores how the Civil Society Platform for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding (CSPPS) understands the interconnected impacts of instability and fragility on the health sector. It explores the challenges faced by the health sector in fragile contexts and highlights its role in fostering social cohesion, trust, and stability before delving into the practical ways health is affected by climate change, gender dynamics, and the often-overlooked mental health consequences of conflict.  

This Briefing Paper unpacks the concept of digitalisation and examines its growing integration into peacebuilding processes. It highlights the opportunities that the digital era offers for advancing peace and conflict prevention. However, these benefits come with potential risks. As societies become more digitalised, new challenges and threats emerge, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected settings. 

This briefing paper explores the multidimensional nature of migration and its integration into the international policy framework and the peace and security discourse, highlighting the role of civil society in advocating for comprehensive migration governance. It underscores the need for integrated approaches that address root causes, foster social cohesion, and promote inclusive policies. By bridging the gaps between humanitarian response, development, and peacebuilding, this paper advocates for a comprehensive and integrated approach to migration that supports more resilient, just, and peaceful societies. 

This climate briefing paper aims to show how CSPPS views the overlapping and interplaying effects of climate change, peacebuilding and security. It examines how and to what extent the international climate change discourse has come to integrate peace and security, and the role of civil society in pushing for their integration.
