If Not Now, Then When? Two thrilling meetings to attend
Two exciting meetings are happening this week on Thursday !
CSPPS and the TAP Network are working together on drafting the 2023 Rome Civil Society Declaration on #SDG16+ that will be presented at the #RomeConference on 30 May - 1 June 2023, as the World is currently experiencing a polycrisis phase, characterized by the War in Ukraine, its aftermaths regarding the costs of living worlwide and numerous protracted conflicts such as in the Sahel region. Due to all these upheavals, reaching the SDGs gets increasingly challenging. Discussions will therefore revolve around improvements and backslides regarding SDG16. The conference will be hosted by United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the International Development Law Organisation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy. Representatives of governments, international organizations, civil society, and academia will be gathered in order to find means to get the path towards SDG 16 back on track.
Our network members will convene to partake in the declaration writing during the online interactive consultation workshop “If Not Now, Then When: An urgent call for transformative SDG16+ commitments at the midpoint of the 2030 Agenda” on Thursday 4 May 2023, from 8:00 – 9:30 EDT / 14:00 – 15:30 CET.
This workshop provides our members with an opportunity to add their voices and inputs into the 2023 Rome Civil Society Declaration on SDG16+, which will be presented at the 2023 Rome SDG16 Conference.
Next to this, a the virtual IDPS Session during Alliance for Peacebuilding’s PeaceCon23 will also be hosted on Thursday 4 May from 12:30-13:45 EST / 18:30 - 19:45 CET. This session will explore how effective multilateral engagement can support realizing SDG16 in fragile and conflict-affected settings. Our colleague Gwendolyn Myers from Messengers of Peace [Liberia], will be one of the speakers at the event.
CSPPS network members who are eager to attend these should touch base with the Secretariat.
